Just like the other reviews, this book is informative but it is graduate level so you should have prior knowledge to better understand and even find the book useful.The first chapter is 51 pages.There are a few colored pictures.This 4th edition is updated and has correct info unlike the first editions.

Good book not overloaded by too much details.However, it presents the material quickly and efficiently.Must-have for the guy who wants to see the present ideas in the explosives and rocket motor solid propellants.Good material on the composition of IR flares.

Since this is the actual text for graduate school, this was totally out of sequence for the history of energetic material. If you are interested in taking a graduate course in chemistry/physics/physical chemistry, this is the book for you. I was just looking for the history of energetic materials and some basic chemistry of the said material. Not a graduate school course.

Since this is written as a text for a post graduate class on high energy materials, this is simply out of sight for the average person. Since I was looking for a more history of energetic materials, this was outside of my interests. So if you are not into Calculus/P.Chemistry /Physics, this is not for you. It is much too advanced for light reading.

I disagree. This book is perfect for covering EM. I have over ten advanced books in Energetic materials, and I have flipped through about another half a dozen.No book has done what this one does. He summarizes the cutting edge techniques in one book, outlook into the future and lays the ground workSo. It is like having someone hand you a book and the history of explosives, present day explosive problems and how to fix these... Alon great with chemistry and thermal knowledge needed for this and then, the author taking you to a technical conference. This book is all that wrapped in one. In blows the similar books by Indian authors out of the water.
